Description

The world has witnessed a lot of controversy over development —induced displacement, and it has given rise to issues concerning social justice and equity. Displacement is essential to development in a globalized world; however, we remain accountable as a nation or as citizens of the world for the displaced. There are issues concerning mental trauma of the displaced, conflict between the refugee and the original habitant, economic and social exclusion relating to new settlements, and issues concerning failure of resettlement without rehabilitation. Moreover, over the years, without compromising on development, we are positioned in a crossroad and are in the process of exploring worthwhile futuristic solutions. This volume is a modest attempt in this direction. With 22 chapters divided into two sections and contributed by anthropologist, economist, engineers, sociologist, activist, administrators, this volume is a rich collection of displacement and rehabilitation research in India. The sections in the volume focused on theoretical and empirical issues pertaining to Displacement and Livelihoods; Rehabilitation Policies and Implementation Issues and People's , Responses. This book is an important addition to the available resources in the field of development, , , displacement and rehabilitation studies. It will be useful as a reference book to researchers and academics working in these areas as well as the professionals involved in the field.
