Description

The first complete study of a little known Muslim presence in Europe

Ireland has always been perceived as a religiously homogenous society. However, mass immigration during the ‘Celtic Tiger’ Years (1995-2008) turned Ireland into one of the most globalised societies in Europe. Ireland’s Muslim population has grown significantly in this period from a few thousand in the early 1990s to more than 50,000. Yet, little is known of Muslims in Ireland. This book provides the first complete study of this unexplored Muslim presence in Europe, including the history of Muslims in Ireland, their mosques and organisations, their religious practices and their overall place in Irish society.
