Abstract

The specific heat of urea/n-heptadecane and urea/n-nonadecane inclusion crystals around the structural phase transition has been studied. The behaviour of the excess entropy together with the birefringence data shows the improper character of these ferroelastic phase transitions. Finally, the complex mechanisms presented by these compounds near the transition temperature are briefly discussed.
