Abstract

In his chapter on the Pauline epistles in Filled with the Spirit, John R. Levison finds many overarching themes and trajectories that tie the Pauline texts to Israelite and early Judaic texts. But in his eagerness to find parallels with these texts and Paul’s letters, he is sometimes too willing to ignore the possibility that a decisively different understanding of the Spirit has arrived with the death and resurrection of Christ and the inauguration of a new covenant no longer dependent upon Torah obedience.
