Abstract

In conjunction with studies on the biochemistry, toxicology, and immunology of insect venoms at The Pennsylvania State University, several hundred nests of various species of stinging Hymenoptera are collected annually from Centre County, Pa. (Benton and Heckman 1969). On Sept. 12, 1969, a nest of Vespula maculifrons (Buysson) was encountered in an unusual location.
