Abstract

The presence of a meconium has been reported in Aedes aegypti (L.) (Christophers 1960) and in mosquitoes in general (Clements 1963). However, no observations of the circumstance of its release have been reported. Terzian et al. (1957) found that 82% of the total nitrogen excreted 24–74 hr following emergence was accounted for by uric acid, but they were not specifically looking at the meconium. The present note includes observations on the manner of release of the meconium in A. aegypti and data on the subsequent collection and uric acid analysis of the material.
