Abstract

Eggs and 5 nymphal instars of Atheas austroriparius Heidemann and Leptoypha costata Parshley are described and illustrated. The following life history information was obtained from correlations of field and lab data: A. austroriparius—2 generations a year; 8–15 days incubation; 1st-generation nymphal stadia averaged 5 days, 2nd generation nymphal stadia averaged 2 days. L. costata—3 generations a year; 9–10 days incubation ; nymphal stadia in all generations averaged 5 days. Both species overwinter as adults. A cecidomyiid parasite, Endopsylla sp., was reared from a 5th-instar L. costata.
