Abstract

The taxonomic identity and relationships, morphological variation, and geographical distribution of three sibling species of Sepedon, snail-killing flies, in the Palearctic and Oriental regions are presented. One of the species, from Spain and southern France, is newly described. The other species, which have had a confused taxonomic history, are distinguishable on the basis of newly discovered characters. One species has been introduced into California from Japan for biological control studies, and the taxonomic and distributional data are used to indicate more desirable sources of material for introduction.
