Abstract
The desirability of developing a system by which taper equations can be derived from existing volume equations is discussed. The general reasoning process by which the taper equation is derived is based on the condition that total volume estimates, based on integration of the taper equation, should be identical to those given by the existing tree volume equation. To demonstrate the principles involved, a logarithmic tree volume equation is converted into a logarithmic taper equation for the commercial species and species groups of British Columbia.
