Abstract
During the 1947-1962 period 87 percent of the variance in round pine pulpwood price first differences was associated with three factors; first differences of a wholesale price index of paper except newsprint, paperboard, and building paper and board; first differences of round pine pulpwood production in the Southeast; and the annual average--lagged one year--of monthly percentage ratios of softwood inventories to softwood consumption. It terms of the relative importance of these three factors in reducing the variance in prices, the wholesale price index ranked first, followed by pulpwood production, and the inventory-consumption percentage ratio, in that order.
