Abstract
A discussion, of which this article is the summary, indicates there is agreement on the theory, concepts, and need for implementing methods of estimating nonmarket benefits of recreation on public lands. There is also agreement that further research is needed to improve estimation of recreation benefit. Disagreements relate to the ease of implementation and the degree to which results must be qualified.
