Abstract
Because of rising costs of imported oil and public support for eliminating nuclear energy. Sweden's use of wood for energy seems certain to increase from its 8-percent share of energy consumed in 1977. Since 21 percent of the value of the country's exports comes from wood products, competition from energy uses may affect the forest industry and the national economy. Sweden has established a biomass research program with emphasis on forest energy (residues) and energy forests.
