Abstract

The condition and use of adjacent lands is becoming increasingly important as more and more organizations manage with multiple-use objectives in mind. Yet differences in ownership, thus in data collection and compilation, on adjacent lands results in considerable difficulty in attempting to compile consistent data for an area extending onto multiple ownerships. This paper illustrates how forest stand data was spatially integrated for an area containing federal, state, county, and private lands. Problems overcome with this approach included differences in minimum stand sizes, stand labeling schemes, georeferencing, forest stand definitions, and completeness of data. Strategies were developed and applied in order to generate a seamless forest stand thematic layer in a geographic information system (GIS). North. J. Appl. For. 11(3):73-79.
