Abstract
In today's fast-paced, high stress workplace, the concepts of civility, respect, and trust are often dismissed as unnecessary in the race to get things done. However, the Veteran's Health Administration (VHA) has found these concepts key to good patient outcomes, staff and patient satisfaction, and enhanced safety. Through its initiative CREW—Civility, Respect, and Engagement in the Workplace—the VHA is changing its culture to one in which civility and respect are the norm instead of the exception.
