Abstract

The purpose of this study is to show the effectiveness of control strategies among the passive tuned mass damper system, active tuned mass damper (ATMD) system, base-isolation system and hybrid control system. A systematic way to determine the weighting matrix Q in the control system is proposed. The weighting matrix Q used in the ATMD system is determined by estimating the gain of modal control through the pole assignment method. For the hybrid control system discussion on the weighting matrix Q is also presented. Numerical studies using different control strategies on two buildings (one is a stiff structure and the other is a soft structure) are discussed.
