Abstract

The survival of infants with homozygous α-thalassemia, once considered a lethal diagnosis, is now possible through in utero and postnatal diagnostic and therapeutic interventions. We report the survival of a newborn with homozygous α-thalassemia complicated by pulmonary hypoplasia and persistent pulmonary hypertension, an association not previously reported.
