Abstract

In a national sample of Norwegian smokers (N = 421) a slight optimistic bias in relation to risk of lung cancer as compared to other smokers was observed when using the indirect method for estimating optimistic bias in contrast to a slight pessimistic bias with the direct method. These findings mainly replicate those of a similar study of British smokers that used unconditional risk measures, but extend them by showing that conditional risk measures produced similar results.
