Description
This volume covers the years 1823/24, focusing on Goethe’s last sojourn in Marienbad and his love for the 18-year-old Ulrike von Levetzow as well as his intensive contacts to representatives of European aristocracy and high nobility. Further emphasis is given to the beginning working relationship between Goethe and Eckermann, the negotiations with the heirs of Schiller concerning the edition of the Goethe-Schiller correspondence as well as the visit to Weimar of Chr. D. Rauch concerning the model for the monument of Goethe in Frankfurt. Like in Volumes I to VI, this volume contains material both from printed sources (often revised after comparison with the handwritten original) and approximately 300 non-printed sources.
