Abstract

Heterodera mediterranea n. sp. found on Pistacia lentiscus roots in southern Italy is described. This cyst-forming nematode differs from the closely related species H. carotae, H. cruciferae and H. goettingiana in having conspicuous bullae, a shorter 2nd-stage juvenile tail and hyaline tail region and by its only known host, a woody plant, Pistacia lentiscus.
