Abstract

Four new species of Axonchium Cobb, 1920 from north-eastern states of India are described. Axonchium (Axonchium) khasianum n. sp., closely related to A. (A.) transkeiense Nair, 1973 is 1.75-1.97 mm long with a = 48-53; b = 2.7-3.3; c = 62-76; V = 55-56; odontostyle = 8-9 m; prerectum = 236-383 m; spicules = 31-32 m and ventromedian supplements evenly distributed. A. (A.) phukani n. sp. is closely related to A. (A. ) heynsi Nair, 1973 and A. (A.) thoubalicum Dhanachand & Jairajpuri, 1981 and is 1.45-1.71 mm long with a = 32-41; b = 2.4-3.6; c = 45-57; V = 54-56; odontostyle = 9-10 m; prerectum = 113-237 m; spicules = 39-44 m. A. (A.) neoeletum n. sp. comes close to A. (A.) elegans Jairajpuri, 1964 and A. (A.) eletum Dhanachand & Jairajpuri, 1981 and is 1.47-1.62 mm long with a = 29-37; b=2.6-3.0; c = 57-81; V = 50-54; odontostyle=8-9 m; prerectum = 177-281 m; spicules = 47-48 m; 6-7 ventromedian supplements. A. (A.) parasaccatum n. sp. is closely related to A. (A.) saccatum Jairajpuri, 1964 and is 1.87-2.07 mm long with a = 47-56; b = 2.4-2.9; c = 68-77; V = 58-60; odontostyle = 10-11 m; prerectum = 218-288 m; spicules = 49-53 m.
