Abstract

Hoplosathe n.gen. is erected for an obvious monophyletic group of therevids occurring in the arid southern parts of the Palaearctic region, ranging from Morocco to Mongolia and China. The species are associated with salty sand flats and salines in deserts and semideserts. Nine species are recognized. Three of these were earlier arranged in Psilocephala Zetterstedt: frauenfeldi (Loew, 1856), formosa (Loew, 1871) and brunni (Kröber, 1912). Six new species are described: capricornis n.sp. (Tadzhikistan, Uzbekistan, Kasachstan and Turmenistan), tomentosa n.sp. (Tadzhikistan, Uzbekistan, Turmenistan, Transkaspia, Dagestan and Mongolia), brevistyla n.sp. (Iran), kozlovi n.sp. (Mongolia and China), richterae n.sp. (Caucasus) and distincta n.sp. (Morocco). All species are keyed, diagnosed and described; details of the male terminalia are illustrated.
