Abstract

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) requires all suppliers of durable medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics, and supplies (DMEPOS) including hospitals, to be accredited by a CMS-approved accreditation organization. As one of the CMS-approved DMEPOS accreditation organizations, The Joint Commission offers hospitals that provide DMEPOS the option of being surveyed to determine compliance with CMS standards. This type of survey is available under The Joint Commission's home care accreditation program.
