Abstract

As emergency situations develop and parameters of operability shift, organizations must maintain a safe and secure environment for their patients and staff. This article discusses the facets of emergency safety and security, including defining the roles of community security agencies; disposing of hazardous materials and waste; isolating and decontaminating patients; controlling movement into, out of, and within the facility; and controlling vehicles that access the facility.
