Abstract

After extensive study of malodorous gases at the Oxley Creek WWTP in Brisbane, Australia, a two stage packed bed wet scrubbing system was chosen to treat the foul gases. A requirement of the system was that no significant odors be allowed to be detected beyond the property limits at maximum capacity operation. The design and operation of the two stage scrubbing system is discussed. By using the latest generation of packing product available, Q-PAC®, the system was designed to be much smaller vs. what would have been required had standard WEF recommended design practice been followed. Project savings of 50% vs. the WEF based design resulted. The odor control system has been tested extensively and is operating within all design parameters. Odors from the Oxley Creek WWTP have been eliminated as a result.
