Abstract

The purpose of this session will be to provide information on the methods used by Orange County Sanitation District (OCSD) for medium and large diameter, 12” to 48", sewer and siphon cleaning using different size tires. This hydraulic method of line cleaning has been used at OCSD for over 40 years. The tires used are configured to travel in an up-right position using head pressure of the sewage behind it to push the tire downstream and sized slightly smaller than the diameter of the pipe to ensure easy of movement through the line section. The flow can be regulated through the tire to maximize the cleaning process and reduce the risk of any overflow discharge due to pressure build-up. The tire will remove grease from the pipe walls and push heavy debris to the next manhole structure for removal. This session will include a power point presentation describing equipment, tools, and standard operating procedure used during the cleaning process.
