Abstract

Methodologies have been developed for forecasting energy savings achieved by sludge age and dissolved oxygen optimization and automation, as well as implementation of the most open valve control strategy. Key equations and the graph were successfully tested at the Oxnard wastewater treatment plant.Energy usage could be considered independent of sludge age while significant energy savings can be achieved by reduction of dissolved oxygen concentration. ‘Most open valve’ strategy provides more energy savings if implemented at the aeration systems equipped with rotary lube blowers than equipped with centrifugal blowers.
