Abstract

Once S City was a prosperous rice farming region and had many irrigation ponds and channels until recently, but many irrigation ponds and channels had turned to residential areas. But S City has a historical site that is surrounded by three moats, built in the 5th century. An irrigation channel had provided water to the moats until recently, but the moats were frequently dried up by urbanization. For that reason, water became stinky and some dead aquatic lives were observed occasionally in the moats. The purpose of this research is to identify the volume of reclaimed wastewater (by advanced treatment) to revive water environment of the moats and urban waterways using model simulations. Box eutrophication (BE) model to the moats and two-dimensional multilayer unsteady state (2DMLUSS) model to two urban streams were used. The two model calculations show the adequate amount of reclaimed wastewater to be introduced to the moats.
