Abstract
In this paper, we present a variety of learning environments/tools with adaptive capabilities that aim to contribute and strengthen a variety of teaching and learning processes. The design of the Adaptive Learning Environments presented in the paper is based on three main principles: encourage students to be active learners, accommodate students' individual differences and needs, and promote meaningful tasks and authentic materials. E-competence skills necessary not only for the integration of such tools in the teaching/learning process, but also for authoring content and activities to be used in innovative learning contexts, are analysed and discussed.
