Abstract

While other self-report measures are exclusively focused on the antisocial (minor) or criminal (serious-typified) character of problem behaviour, the Antisocial Behaviour Inventory (ABI-ICA) is an extensive measure of antisocial behaviour that divides antisocial and antinormative behaviour into subtypes, depending on the individual's motivation. The properties of the inventory for measuring types of antisocial behaviour have been examined using a sample of 1440 participants aged 12-30 years. Differentiating the underlying motivations for antisocial behaviour is capital to establish the relationships that may exist between problem behaviour and cognitive variables like moral development or values. A second study shows that the Antisocial Behaviour Inventory also discriminates between institutionalised teenagers with problem behaviours and non-institutionalised teenagers. Furthermore, in a third study results show that the different areas of antisocial behaviour, measured through this inventory, are related to the individual's social perspective, measured by the Prosocial Tendencies Measure (PTM) and Schwartz's Values Questionnaire.
