Abstract

This paper describes work carried out on the testing of various explosively welded joints used in industry. The acoustic and mechanical anisotropy of material in the joint area was studied using suitable techniques. Ultrasonic refractometric analysis was applied, along with a sublimation test, a hardness test, a shearing test and metallography. Tests were conducted for two perpendicular strain directions of material in the joint area. Acoustic and mechanical anisotropy were detected in welded joints and the reason for these phenomena is explained.
