Abstract
The objectives on reducing overall emissions are a special challenge for Finland, because its energy consumption per GNP is higher than in the majority of industrialised countries. In the 1990s, Finnish infrastructure decisions were subject to major disputes and a related major action programme, LYYLI, was launched. The reports in the field of transport and environment in Finland can be characterised in three categories: research on environmental effects, reports on policy-making and case studies. This summary provided an overview of these kinds of studies. Three studies considered as important were selected for more detailed analysis: air quality calculation, pricing and air quality modelling.
