Abstract

Solidification cracking in austenitic stainless steel welds has been considered based on the solidification modes and the nickel and chromium equivalents in welding processes where the cooling rates are high. Taking a Creq/Nieq (Welding Research Council) ratio of 1.6 as a criterion for the final weld metal to avoid hot cracking, a methodology is proposed for the selection of filler or buffer material equivalents.
