Abstract
A practical method of determining small horizontal movements of the Earth's crust would clearly be of great value in fundamental and applied geophysics for it would contribute to an understanding of movements on faults and in earthquakes, to development of methods of earthquake prediction and, perhaps, to further knowledge of large scale structures in the crust such as are suggested by Earth tide studies.
