Abstract

The concepts and benefits of an efficient cadastral system are widely recognised in North America. This is evidenced by: numerous conferences such as the Second Molds Conference in 1978 titled "Implementation of a Modern Multipurpose LandData System"; a number of detailed reports, such as the reports published by the National Research Council (NRC) (1980 and 1983) in the U.S.A. titled "Need for a multipurpose Cadastre" and "Procedures and Standards for a Multi-purposeCadastre" respectively; and the introduction of several programmes at a state-wide level to improve land administration, the most notable being the Land Registration and Information Service in the Maritime Provinces in Canada. For a comprehensive list of activity in North America in this area, reference should be made to the National Research Council publications mentioned above.
