Abstract
Flexible automated assembly is a technology which can help reverse the trend in manufacturing which today so much favours non-European nations such as Japan and the USA. This is the reasoning behind FAMOS, a European initiative on flexible automated assembly in which the UK, Italy, France, Germany, Austria, Sweden and Spain are currently participating.
