Abstract

A new, exact and general frequency equation for the flexural vibrations of a uniform beam appears to be very useful in deriving accurate expressions for the sound radiation generated by the (one-dimensional) resonant vibrations of rigid baffled, rectangular plates.Only that class of boundary conditions is investigated for which the plate has real resonant frequencies. A special case, for example, is the free plate, whose radiation efficiency was hitherto unknown.
