Abstract
The excitation and propagation of Lamb waves in a transparent glass plate is briefly analysed and an optical probing technique is presented, that permits an investigation of the acoustic field patterns produced by different modes. The optical detection is based on a polarization discrimination technique and the visualization of the transverse distribution of both shear strain 8ß and strain combination
