Abstract

Adsorption behaviors between Zn2+ ion and crosslinked amphoteric starches (CAS) with quaternary ammonium and carboxymethyl groups in aqueous solutions were investigated. Various factors in the adsorption process, including the pH, temperature, time and initial concentration of Zn2+, the dose of CAS, as well as the degree of substitution (DS) of carboxymethyl group are discussed. The adsorption followed the Langmuir isotherm. And the thermodynamic study indicated that the adsorption processes was endothermic, and thermodynamic parameters were calculated.
