Abstract
Meteorological and pollution data related to exposure trials should be collected with the specific aim of the corrosion tests clearly in view. The correlation between environmental data and corrosion kinetics may be approached either empincally or theoretically. Examples of both are cIted and discussed. Interactions between the environmental variables are important and equilibrium between the corroding surface and its environment must not be assumed. The most important factors to measure in studies of bare metals or metal cotaing are at present believed to be sulphur pollution chlorides, pH of rain, metal temperature and duration of wetness. the vanation of each with time must be recorded if interactions are to be adequately accounted for.
