Abstract
Abstract. In recent years it has become more and more clear that the atomic nucleus is a relativistic system, which at low energies can be described rather succesfully by non-relativistic kinematics.Nonetheless there are important dyna ic e .ects, which can be fully understood only in a relativistic framework. In any non-relativistic description they have to be taken into account in a phenomenological way with additional para eters.Several phenomena in low energy nuclear structure are discussed, which indicate the relativistic dyna ics in nuclei, such as a relativistic saturation mechanism, the spin-orbit splitting and its isospin dependence,pseudo-spin sym etry as a relativistic sym etry andthe in .uence of nuclear magnetism on rotational otion.
