Abstract
As the first phase of Shanghai BLG Sewer Treatment Plant, a Chemically Enhanced Preliminary Treatment (CEPT) process was selected to provide a suitable effluent discharge via a long estuary outfall in deep water. CEPT relies on adding coagulants to the treatment process for the effective removal of phosphorus, one of the key nutrients in the formation of “red tides”. It had been demonstrated that phosphorus removal efficiency and chemical dosage are highly dependent on the efficiency of suspended solids removal in the treatment system.
