Abstract

After feeding on blood bed bugs aggregate in response to a pheromone blend comprising five attractive volatile components and histamine, which causes arrestment upon contact. In their Communication on page 1135 ff., R. Britton, G. Gries, and co‐workers demonstrate the high effectiveness of this blend at luring bed bugs into traps in infested premises. The trapping of juvenile and adult bed bugs indicates that this pheromone could become an effective bait for bed bug detection (picture: M. Habrar and S. Demuth).
