Papers describing the widest possible range of applications of EPD are included; thus reflecting the amazing versatility of the technique. The topics range from theoretical studies of the fundamental mechanisms of EPD, to novel technological developments of EPD for the low-cost fabrication of a variety of materials.
Most of the papers address the application of the EPD technique to the manufacturing of engineering materials and components; including free-standing ceramic components, ceramic coatings on metallic substrates, fibre-reinforced ceramic matrix composites, nanostructured composites and films, microelectronic substrates, bioactive coatings, functionally graded materials, piezoelectric devices and solid oxide fuel cells. Other papers encourage the application of EPD as an advantageous technology for the manufacture of small-scale, near net-shape, accurately dimensioned objects. This book is unique in that it summarises the whole of the worldwide state-of-the-art in R&D on EPD as a material processing technique.
