Abstract

This paper presents the numerical results obtained with a modal model for an actively controlled double-glazed window introduced recently. With this model many cost functions have been developed and studied. As global cost functions can be mentioned, mean square velocity of one or both of the panes, mean square sound pressure level in the cavity and radiated sound power. Also investigated are local cost functions simulating samples of the fields registered by means of microphones or accelerometers. Both, loudspeakers inside the cavity and forces applied to one or both panes were tested as well as mixed control schemes. Different parameters of the window were varied, i.e. width, height, pane distance, pane thicknesses, as well as the number, type and position of the secondary actuators. The results are presented and discussed. The main findings are that control with loudspeakers inside the cavity is superior over forces on either pane, and that if forces are used for whatever reason they should be applied to the outer pane, i.e. the pane of sound incidence.
