Abstract
The title centrosymmetric complex, [Cd2Cl4(C14H13NO3)2]·2CH3OH, contains two protonated Schiff base ligands which were derived from the condensation of o‐vanillin and 2‐hydroxyaniline. The CdII ion is five‐coordinated by three Cl atoms and two O atoms in a distorted square‐pyramidal geometry. A basal edge containing two bridging chloride ligands is shared by both symmetry‐related CdII ions. The four atoms of the Cd2Cl2 core are coplanar, giving a rhomboidal geometry with two short and two long Cd—Cl distances and acute Cl—Cd—Cl and obtuse Cd—Cl—Cd angles. The crystal structure is stabilized by intermolecular hydrogen bonds and weak π–π stacking interactions with a centroid‐to‐centroid distance of 3.710 (4) Å.
