Abstract
Drugs to increase exercise performance are not only used in professional sports but also in leisure sports with tendency to rise. Besides anabolics, analgesics are typical medications. The athletes intend to prevent the development of pain or to treat already existing pain. Potential side effects, which can be particularly pronounced during exhausting workouts, are mostly disregarded. Furthermore, the athletes ignore the important warning and protecting functions of pain and might therefore damage muscles, tendons and ankles.
