Abstract

We study rectification of a current of particles moving in a spatiallyperiodic potential under the influence of time-periodic forces withzero mean value. If certain time-space symmetries are broken, anonzero directed current of particles is possible. We investigatethis phenomenon in the framework of the kinetic Boltzmann equation. Wefind that the attractor of the Boltzmann equation completely reflectsthe symmetries of the original one-particle equation ofmotion. Especially, we analyse the limits of weak and strongrelaxation. The dc current increases by several orders of magnitudewith decreasing dissipation.
