Abstract

This article presents an original extensive data set on the results of the 2012 French legislative elections and explores different ways of aggregating electoral outcomes. Building on the official results centralized by the Ministry of the Interior, this data set is a unique effort to allocate reliable candidate labels that account for both the extreme plurality of the French political landscape and the main alliances between parties. The presentation of the database is accompanied by a description of the main features of the 2012 French legislative elections, including an unprecedented discussion of the differences in patterns of party competition between metropolitan and overseas France due to territorial divisions.
