Abstract
This article describes a system that synchronously simulates the evolution of accidents in industrial plants. Such a system is based on mathematical models and can simulate "real-time" the accident evolution while it is occurring. The simulation system can acquire data from sensors, such as meteorological parameters and plant status, and can take into account them during the computation. The system separately computes a mathematical model of each physical event involved in the accident, then periodically combines the outputs of the models to show the whole evolution of the accident. Moreover, the system can be effectively used either to develop an a priori risk analysis of possible accidents, and to train workers to ensure the best achievable safety during industrial emergencies.
