Abstract
Transmission electron microscopy observations of extended nodes in Cr2Nb compressed at 1400 and 1500degreesC have been used to obtain a value of gamma = 25 mJ m-2 for the stacking-fault energy above the ductile-to-brittle transition temperature of 1200o C. Such a modest value for gamma may help to explain the significance of deformation twinning and the formation of polytypic structures in this compound.
